Inspections & Testings

All electrical installations deteriorate with age and usage. Inspections and testings at regular intervals should be done in order to check whether they are in a satisfactory condition for continued use. These safety checks are professionally referred to as ‘periodic inspection and testing’.

Periodic inspection will:

  • Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded.
  • Identify any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards.
  • Identify any defective electrical work.
  • Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding.

Tests should be carried out on the wiring and any fixed electrical equipment to check that they are safe to use. A schedule of circuits will also be provided, which is invaluable for any property.

How often should a periodic inspection occur?

Your electric system should be inspected and tested every:

  • When a property is being prepared for letting.
  • Before selling a property or buying a previously-occupied property.
  • Who should carry out the periodic inspection and what happens?

Periodic inspection and testing should be carried out only by electrically competent professionals, such as registered electricians.
